Match report
El Vencedor de Montserrat edged out Club de Villa Crespo Este in a close victory in a match where both sides came with similar set-ups, but neither managed to play their best football. Saúl Turi’s second-half goal proved the difference on an afternoon when balance dominated almost the entire contest. With this win, the home side picks up three crucial points on matchday 6 of Primera L - GBA Oeste, while the visitors are still unable to break their away-day run.
Turi, the 27-year-old left-sided midfielder who arrived in Montserrat after a career forged in Patagonia, was the man who struck the decisive goal. His 7.3 rating reflected a solid, though not spectacular, display. At the back, Saúl Barrera stood firm in his role as centre-back, with that concentration typical of defenders raised in dust-and-cement neighbourhoods. Gabriel Bandiera, the 33-year-old midfielder who has already clocked up plenty of miles in Argentine football, tried to be the team’s attacking compass, but the presence of Ramiro Visini in the visitors’ midfield made life difficult in the spaces. Bastianelli on the right was another cog in the Montserrat machine, keeping the attacking moves ticking over even if he did not create many clear chances.
For Villa Crespo Este, Eduardo Ponce had a quiet afternoon. The 18-year-old striker, with only limited experience at this level, could not find the spaces he was looking for. Jeremías Lera in goal did his job without any major scares. In the end, El Vencedor de Montserrat won because they were more clinical with the little they created, not because they overwhelmed their opponents. A win like this, in a tight match, has its value in the competition, but it also shows that the home side must improve their attacking approach if they want to challenge for something meaningful in the tournament.
