Match report

Club Wilde FC won at home against Sportivo Banfield Sur with a goal from Enzo Jiménez in a match decided by fine margins. It was a deserved victory in a tight fixture on the opening matchday of Primera E GBA Sur, where both sides lined up in balanced 4-4-2 formations but without managing to play expansive football. The home side were more clinical in execution, and that allowed them to take the three points against a visitor who had their chances but did not make them count.

The Wilde side were more incisive when it mattered. Enzo Jiménez, the 28-year-old right winger who grew up in Patagonia watching his father work in diesel, was decisive in the goal. Franco Aguirre in defence had a very solid outing as a centre-back, keeping Emiliano Acosta and Jorge Peralta's attacking efforts in check. Nicolás Romero and Lautaro Flores completed a home structure that did not produce eye-catching football but was effective. Gonzalo Messi up front, now 29, moved about without creating constant danger but was in the right place when needed. Both home forwards picked up yellow cards over the course of the match.

Banfield Sur, with Lucas Mac Allister as an experienced left-back and a striking partnership that promised more than it delivered, could not find the space to do damage. Acosta was also booked. The away side had spells of possession during the match but lacked clear ideas to break down the home structure. It was a typical match for these regional tournaments: without major flashes of brilliance, decided by small details and by the effectiveness of whoever took their chance. Wilde take matchday 1 with a sound defensive base and the certainty that the side responds when needed.
