Match report
Club de Villa Crespo Este won 3-2 at home against Federación Pompeya in a match that had everything the Primera L of GBA Oeste promises: goals, defensive errors and teams that would not be cowed even while trailing. It was a tight but deserved victory for the home side, who managed the rhythm of the game better with their balanced 4-4-2 formation, while the visitors came looking for the same but found a defence that knew how to counter their attacking intentions in the decisive spell.
Nilo Funes was decisive in Villa Crespo Este's attack, scoring a goal that carried weight on the final scoreline. His performance as a right-sided midfielder allowed him to create space and link up with the creative lines. Maxi Sotomayor, the seventeen-year-old youngster raised in Tandil, also scored and showed that trademark mobility that brought him here. In defence, Ramón Veronese, the thirty-four-year-old veteran, was a rock at centre-back, while Lucio Guzmán on the right flank put in a solid display. Eduardo Ponce completed the attacking shape with a constant presence. For Federación Pompeya, Ricardo Bauer scored one of the visitors' goals and battled tirelessly up front, backed by the efforts of Ignacio Branca, the left-back who also found the net.
The match was decided by details. Villa Crespo Este knew how to make the most of their chances in the second half when they needed it most, while Pompeya could not sustain the intensity they had shown in the opening minutes. The home side take three valuable points in the table; the visitors leave with the feeling of having let points slip away, although their attacking response in the closing minutes shows they still have plenty left in the tank.
