Match report
Def. Retiro Oeste and Sportivo Floresta Sur shared the points in a match where both had their moments of brilliance but neither managed to assert themselves definitively. The 2-2 was a fair reflection of an evenly balanced contest, where the similar tactical set-ups —4-4-2 in both cases— meant the sides had to look for their chances through individual quality rather than any tactical surprises. The home side opened the scoring through Ian Arechavaleta, who made the most of his youth (23 years) to be in exactly the right place, but Sportivo Floresta Sur struck back immediately through the finishing of Yago Tassinari (30), a seasoned forward who knows where to be when it matters.
The story repeated itself in the second half. Nene Bono put Def. Retiro Oeste ahead again with his goal, but the away side did not lose heart. Tomi Mercado, the left-sided midfielder who grew up in a working-class neighbourhood of Merlo, had the composure to bundle in Floresta Sur’s second and restore parity. The 25-year-old wide man was one of the most active players on the pitch, moving the ball about intelligently while his teammates tried to keep up the tempo.
What was clear was the defensive solidity of both back fours. Bauti Hernández (20 years) at right-back for the home side and Vidal Cabrera (30) on the left for the visitors did their jobs without fuss, containing without stealing the headlines. Yanis Braun, the 31-year-old from Rosario who plays on the left for the home side, had his openings but never quite became the difference Def. Retiro Oeste were looking for. For the next fixture, both will have to make adjustments if they hope to escape this cycle where draws are plentiful and wins are scarce. Matchday 13 in Primera I GBA Norte left both sides feeling short-changed.
