Match report

Villa Urquiza took a convincing win in La Matanza. Social y Deportivo Villa Riachuelo fell 3-1 to a visitor who controlled the tempo of the match with ease, even though both sides came out with similar ideas. The home side's balanced 4-4-2 was not enough to halt the attacking efficiency of the Flores outfit, where Nahue Pedraza, the nineteen-year-old youngster born in Comodoro Rivadavia, was the most incisive man: he netted two goals without mercy and picked up a yellow card that underlines his competitive temperament. Gerardo Lazcano, the veteran 36-year-old striker with that scar on his chin that is rarely noticeable on the pitch, pulled one back for the hosts, but it was not enough.

What Villa Urquiza showed was a defensive solidity that neutralised Villa Riachuelo's attempts. Cayetano Sandoval, the midfielder developed in the workshops of Comodoro, contributed from the right wing where he always reads the game better, and added a goal to his tally. Francisco Adamczyk, just an eighteen-year-old youngster with a 7.3 rating, showed unexpected defensive nous. Tadeo Calabretta, that 37-year-old midfielder who keeps the boots from his debut like a treasure, was the organiser from midfield, while Rodrigo Ughetti worked tirelessly down the left. Franco Raffaeli put in a good performance at right-back for the hosts with an assist, but was overrun in the last twenty minutes when the team was forced to push forward.

For Villa Riachuelo, the result is a bitter one in a section where everyone is fighting for the same thing. The lack of attacking depth was obvious, and individual efforts —such as Lazcano's— were not enough to build a collective resistance. Villa Urquiza, by contrast, picked up three away points in Primera L de GBA Sur and confirmed that when their pieces click, the team has real attacking weight. Matchday 16 left one winner and a home side that will have to rethink how to keep themselves in the fight.
