Match report

Sportivo Flores Sur came out on top yesterday at Flores's pitch with a 2-1 win over Provincial Saavedra in a match that had the feel of one of those fixtures where both sides understand football in a similar way, but one manages to turn its intentions into goals on the scoreboard more effectively. Both lining up in a 4-4-2 and with a balanced approach that ruled out tactical surprises, what stood out was the friction in midfield, the occasional defensive mismatch and the home side's ability to make better use of its spaces with greater precision. Flores Sur managed the tempo better, without needing to be overwhelming, while Saavedra came with intent but without that extra bit needed to force a different result away from home.

A great deal of the match was decided in midfield. Bautista Peñaloza, the home side's right-sided midfielder, had a very good afternoon, shifting the play infield intelligently and being dangerous in attacking forays. The 21-year-old from Sportivo Flores Sur contributed a goal and an assist in the display, numbers that show his influence on the match. From the right flank, Camilo García was also solid in defensive work, winning the ball back and giving confidence at the back. In the defensive anchor role, Renzo Zucchini still brings that toughness in the tackle that defines his game; at 30, he remains a difficult presence for opposing attackers. Meanwhile, Mariano Brignole did just enough as the holding midfielder, picking up a yellow that limited what he could do late on.

The goals were not spectacular, but they were effective. Sportivo Flores Sur scored two goals that allowed them to keep the lead for most of the match, while Provincial Saavedra managed to pull one back once the game was already heading towards its conclusion. Adolfo Hoyos, Saavedra's 27-year-old striker with experience built up at several clubs, got one of the away goals, showing that although his side were below par, they still had some attacking spark in the key moments. Pipa Loncón, the 19-year-old Rosario-born striker who plays for Provincial Saavedra, also took part in the attack with an assist, but the collective effort was not enough to change the result.

Flores Sur's defence worked in an orderly fashion. Mirko Ordoñez in goal had solid interventions without needing to face extreme danger. The home side did not suffer too much, aside from that goal they conceded. Provincial Saavedra tried to press at specific moments but lacked the consistency to hover around the opposition box in any systematic way. Flores Sur won a tight match that in broader terms reflects the reality of Primera L in CABA: teams that share similar ideas, where the details and the ability to execute end up being decisive. The home side was a little more effective in that respect. A fair victory, without any dramatic excess, with a side that showed tactical maturity in the management of the match.
