Match report

Club Zorros Lincoln dismantled Club Entusiasmo on a night when tactical superiority and defensive precision proved the recipe for a four-nil thrashing. At Lincoln’s ground, the hosts carried out their three-defender system with composure, while the visiting side never managed to find space to seriously threaten. Zorros’ 3-5-2 allowed the centre-backs to cover every area, while right-back Marcelo Ríos and his team-mates comfortably won their duels against Entusiasmo’s attempts to break through down the right. Ríos, aged 31 and possessing the experience that comes from playing in the interior, was a wall on his flank. The Bahía Blanca-born right-back performed efficiently, cutting passing lanes and winning back possession to fuel quick transitions forwards.

Zorros’ midfield functioned as it should when the balance is properly calibrated. Lionel Etcheverry, the 21-year-old midfielder who carries Patagonia’s toughness in his DNA, controlled the rhythm of the match. Etcheverry not only won the ball, but distributed it intelligently, allowing his team-mates to move around the pitch without rushing. His goal reflected that constant involvement, while he also added an assist that demonstrated his versatility in attack. Alongside him, Diego Ortega pulled the strings from the attacking area. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder from Resistencia took advantage of the spaces left by the opposition defence and contributed both a goal and an assist that reflected his excellent performance. Gustavo Conti, the 31-year-old right winger born in Bahía Blanca, battled for every ball and caused disorder in the visiting defence.

Entusiasmo could barely sustain any dangerous transitions. Valentín Riva, the 25-year-old right-back, endured a thankless match against Zorros’ system. Tiziano Sánchez, aged 18 and with little experience at this level of competition, also suffered under the pressure from the home side. Ángel Almada, the 31-year-old forward from Comodoro Rivadavia, was isolated in attack and could not create the movements needed to open passing lanes towards him. Zorros’ goals came at moments when Entusiasmo’s defence made positional errors. Sebastián Costa, the 27-year-old home forward, contributed a goal to his side’s attacking tally. Costa, who comes from a neighbourhood in Greater Buenos Aires where football was the only escape, converted his chances with composure.

The thrashing was built on a solid defence and swift transitions that brought the visitors tumbling down. Club Entusiasmo left the pitch knowing they had come up against an opponent who knew how to manage its efforts, keep its lines well defined and capitalise on every defensive mistake. For Zorros Lincoln, this emphatic victory on matchday 6 strengthens their position in Primera E del GBA Oeste.
