Match report

Nueva Estrella Boedo took a tight victory on matchday 7 of Primera I in GBA Norte, with a 2-1 win against Federación Mataderos that left little room for anything beyond the result. It was a match between two identical set-ups, both in 4-4-2 and balanced mentality, where home advantage eventually told, although the visitors arrived with the intention of taking something back from the south of the suburbs. Diego Bevilacqua in the home goal produced a solid display, rating 7.6, showing that game-reading ability that characterises goalkeepers developed in the rigour of open pitches. At the other end, Federación Mataderos did not give in easily, but Nueva Estrella Boedo found the ways to break the deadlock.

Manu Tagle was one of the key men in midfield. The 26-year-old Argentine central midfielder did not just defend but also played out when needed, and his contribution in the finish was decisive with the goal he scored. With a rating of 7.2, Tagle moved comfortably in that midfield zone, linking defence to attack. Alberto Najib, a right-sided midfielder already 33 years old, also played an important part with an assist to his name, showing that experience remains a valuable currency in these leagues. The veteran from Resistencia, who arrived at Nueva Estrella years ago after a chance trial, understood the tempo of the match and did not let himself be rushed.

Saúl Berasategui, the 25-year-old Chilean striker with a rating of 7.5, did his job up front without especially shining but still causing concern in the visitors' defence. It was Tato Etcheverry where Nueva Estrella found freshness in the final metres. The winger, just 17, dared to play with the carefree style typical of his age, without any worries, and capped his good performance with a goal. Despite a yellow card that put him on watch, Etcheverry showed that Merlo keeps producing youngsters with know-how for football at this level.

Marcos Spada, the 32-year-old left winger for Federación Mataderos, pulled one back for the visitors with a rating of 7.2 and showed that the years have not taken away his ability to react. The man from Córdoba, who grew up between the oil fields and the coastal city, still has his reflexes intact when the ball comes to his feet. Joaco Peralta, the Brazilian striker of the same age as Spada, contributed an assist that kept Federación Mataderos' hopes alive, showing that there were people in the visiting attack willing to compete to the end.

The match ended with Nueva Estrella Boedo as deserved winners in a contest where the home side controlled more territory without that meaning they had comfortably outplayed their opponent. Federación Mataderos left with the feeling that they could have taken something from the three points, but things did not fall their way in the final details. For Nueva Estrella, three vital points that keep them in contention in the championship.
