Match report

Villa Riachuelo claimed three precious points on matchday 20 of Primera L - GBA Norte against El Tradicional de Parque Avellaneda, in a match where both teams set up in similar formations but with differing outcomes. The final 1-0 scoreline summed up what happened on the pitch: a home side that knew how to take its chances and an away team that never found a route to goal, despite having their moments. It was one of those tight matches where the details make the difference, and Villa Riachuelo executed them better.

The home side controlled proceedings from the start with their balanced 4-4-2 formation. Cristian Rotondo, the home team's right winger, was a constant problem on the right flank. The 27-year-old from Córdoba has the ability to create danger both with crosses and individual efforts, and was one of the main protagonists in Villa Riachuelo's attack. In midfield, Bautista Zarate, a 33-year-old veteran who knows all the secrets of football in the northern area, managed the tempo precisely. It was a solid performance from the Merlin midfielder, who prevented the visitors from circulating the ball fluently.

El Tradicional de Parque Avellaneda did not look out of their depth. Rodolfo Sperandio, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder from Tucumán, tried to link play from the middle of the pitch with a variety of approaches, but his teammates never quite managed to break through Villa Riachuelo's defensive lines. León Hartmann at right-back was caught out in several moves and was booked for a clear foul. Hernán Biagioli, the 20-year-old centre-back from La Plata, had an acceptable evening, but facing Bautista Vázquez, the 17-year-old left winger and promising young home player who scored the goal, proved demanding for the developing defender.

The only goal came in a situation where Villa Riachuelo were able to finish the job. Bautista Vázquez scored the goal that decided the story of the match, rewarding Riachuelo's constant pressure in search of the opener. The youngster from Tigre, brought up in that environment of hard work and family sacrifice, delivered when it mattered. Yanis Zola in the home goal, the 32-year-old goalkeeper from Mendoza with a solid rating, barely had to intervene on a handful of occasions. And when he did, he showed a veteran's composure. At right-back, Joaquín Zola, the just 16-year-old Brazilian youngster, fulfilled his defensive role without any trouble.

In the final twenty minutes, Parque Avellaneda tried to force openings because the scoreline demanded it, but could not find any attacking clarity. Villa Riachuelo, maintaining their tactical balance well, controlled the attempts and saw the match out without any major scares. It was a solid, deserved victory, the kind you build step by step over ninety minutes.
