Match report
Patriotas Almagro gave no surprises at home, seeing off General Pueyrredón de Constitución 2-0 in a result that reflected the home side’s superiority on matchday three of Primera I del GBA Oeste. Two evenly matched line-ups on paper, but with very different results on the pitch. The Almagro side found the space needed to threaten, while the visitors were never able to string together a convincing response to trouble Raúl Tamargo, the 17-year-old goalkeeper from Mendoza who enjoyed a quiet afternoon between the posts for the home side.
The goals came as expected in a match where the tactical balance quickly tipped one way. Elías Villegas, a 26-year-old Patagonian forward at the peak of his powers, opened the scoring with a clean finish after disorganisation in the visiting defence. Sebastián Quiroga then sealed the result; the 20-year-old centre-back, also born in Comodoro Rivadavia, scored a goal that highlighted the clear passing Patriotas maintained throughout the match. Rodrigo Guerrero, the Mendoza-born full-back with a 7.6 rating, was a constant threat down the right, both offensively and defensively. Samuel Pelletti attempted isolated attacking moves for General Pueyrredón, but the visiting centre-backs Constantino Bertone and midfielder Oscar Bressan could not find a way to neutralise the home side’s attacking flow.
General Pueyrredón were left with the feeling of a side that failed to find the rhythm or precision needed to cause problems. Pelletti, Bressan and Bertone did their jobs without standing out, with low ratings reflecting a grey afternoon. Patriotas Almagro take three points that consolidate their position as a strong home side, while the visitors will have to review what was missing in a performance where they barely troubled the opposition goal. A comfortable victory that leaves more questions in Constitución than answers in Almagro.
