On a pitch where the cold afternoon wind blew evenly for both sides, Deportivo Constitución Veteranos and General Güemes de Balvanera signed off on a 1-1 draw that left a sense of chances wasted. The home side put out a balanced formation aimed at containing the visitors' attacks without giving up their own initiative, while the Balvanera side came with an identical tactical approach: two banks of four and the intention of not giving ground in midfield. The match unfolded within those grey margins where neither side wanted to take too many risks.
Zacarías Jiménez, the 37-year-old right-back who carries his territorial scars on his shoulders, was the man in charge of opening the scoring for the home side. That goal was worth a foothold on an afternoon when Deportivo Constitución Veteranos were more practical than stylish. Genaro Arriaga, the 16-year-old youngster who handles the ball between the lines with surprising naturalness for his age, put in a restrained shift in midfield but picked up a yellow card that marked his display. For the visitors, Camilo Arechaga, the Brazilian right winger, was the one who levelled matters and made it 1-1 on the scoreboard. Defensive midfielder Octavio Klein also saw yellow, while Tomás Frutos orchestrated from midfield with the calm of someone who knows the codes of football in the west side.
The draw ultimately felt fair in its mediocrity. Neither Constitución Veteranos found the killer blow to take all three points nor did General Güemes have the attacking consistency to finish off their chances. On matchday 8 of Primera L of GBA Oeste, both sides take a point that probably satisfies neither, but it faithfully reflects what happened in ninety minutes of balanced football, where the experience of the veterans was measured against youth without major upheaval.
