Defensores de San Cristóbal Centro claimed a well-earned win in the West, beating Almagro by the odd goal in a match where both sides showed similar set-ups but the home team had the edge needed to tilt the pitch. The 1-0 came from tight, cagey football with little space, where Cris Buscaglia made the difference at some point in the match and sealed three points that keep the San Cristóbal outfit’s campaign alive on matchday 14 of Primera L in the GBA Oeste.
The match unfolded as expected for two teams who came out to keep things tight. At the back, Tito Argento did his job on the left flank, although he had to tread carefully after being booked during the game. Benicio Guerra commanded the midfield with the composure of someone who has been around the area for years, while Agustín Rosati, the winger of just 19 years old born in Comodoro Rivadavia, was given minutes to unsettle things down the left with that unusual calm that defines him. For the visitors, Yair Jiménez, barely 16, carried the defensive burden from right-back; his promise is there, but experience was lacking at key moments. Ramón Spadafora in midfield tried to link things up, while Nahuel Mora, another youngster of just 16, had few chances to shine on the right.
The goal came when San Cristóbal Centro needed it most, sparing them an awkward afternoon with no clear ideas. For Almagro, the defeat leaves a bitter taste because they could not solve their lack of penetration. The teams showed tactical balance but different ability to turn chances into goals. With this victory, the home side can breathe in the mid-table zone; the La Paternal side will have to rethink their approach if they want to escape the lower reaches.
