Match report

La Gloria de Liniers took a victory they knew how to earn on the opponent’s ground, where AC Villa Riachuelo could not find the tools to break through an away defence that stayed alert for the full ninety minutes. The 1-0 was fair in a tight match where both teams went with similar approaches in their respective 4-4-2 formations, but where the visitors had the composure to finish at the right moment. Ramón Schwartzman, the thirty-year-old midfielder who knows the paths of football in the interior well, was the man who settled the few chances that came their way, sealing a win that leaves La Gloria with renewed hope in the fight for the top places in Primera L.

AC Villa Riachuelo created chances but lacked precision in the final third. Vidal Bottura, the twenty-six-year-old midfielder who arrived from Patagonia hungry for football, picked up a yellow card for his eagerness in winning the ball back. In defence, the youngster Adolfo Amezaga did his job without any scares despite being only seventeen years old, although his lack of experience showed in the moments when La Gloria looked for depth. The full-back Joaquín Zola, with only sixteen springs behind him, was outpaced when the visitors’ attackers gained ground down his flank.

For the winners, the full-backs Isaac Mata and Polaco Bonincontro sealed a defensive line that did not give up clear chances. Bonincontro was booked but kept his composure, while Mata played cleanly. Antonio Izquierdo at the heart of defence did not allow Villa Riachuelo to build attacking play from the middle. La Gloria knew how to suffer when needed and deliver when the moment arrived, something that in these short league competitions ends up being decisive. For the home side, there was the frustration of not going further despite playing at home.
