Match report

Mutual Abasto settled their match against Sportivo Floresta Sur with authority on the pitch at GBA Norte, winning 2-0 on an afternoon when the home side managed the game without needing any spectacular displays. Both teams came in with similar approaches, two balanced 4-4-2s that promised a tight match, but Mutual Abasto found the gaps in the visitors’ defence first and made the most of them without wasting chances. Lionel Quaglia barely had any work between the posts, which neatly sums up how the contest unfolded: dominance without drama, efficiency over intensity.

At the back, Yoel Quintero and Galo Basaldua fulfilled their role as wide stoppers without any major exposure, while Geremías Barba, the teenage centre-back of just seventeen, showed the defensive maturity that marks him out. Brian Nieto was the team’s driving force in midfield, setting up from his attacking-midfield position with good judgement so his team-mates could finish the move. Sportivo Floresta Sur never found any synchronicity in attack. Agustín Zanforlin and Yago Tassinari, the visitors’ two forwards, were left isolated throughout the match and barely troubled anyone. Tomi Mercado tried to create something down the left, but without consistent support. The yellow card Tassinari picked up midway through the second half was more a reflection of his frustration than of a serious foul.

Mutual Abasto take a victory that puts them in a strong position in the standings, with a defence that looks increasingly solid and an attack that, though lacking big individual flashes, knows how to see out matches when it has to. For Sportivo Floresta Sur, the defeat leaves more questions than answers about how to sharpen their offence when they face opponents who control the game with authority.
