Match report
Defensa de Caballito Oeste took a deserved victory at Federación Pompeya's ground, with a 2-1 scoreline that reflects the tactical balance of a match in which both sides opted for the same thing: two banks of four, balanced mindset, few surprises. The visitors managed the key moments better and struck twice, while the home side pulled one back too late to really cause any alarm.
Ronaldo Egea and Jesús Gándara were the scorers in Caballito Oeste's win, both with a rating of 7.2 in a solid collective display. The 19-year-old midfielder and the 27-year-old winger found space in a Pompeya side that failed to press with the necessary intensity in midfield. Leonardo Egea, the visiting goalkeeper aged 36, showed good defensive awareness despite picking up a yellow card. Joaquín Szymanski, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, moved the ball well in attack although he too got stuck in the mud with a booking. For the home side, Zaid Forni scored the goal that kept hope alive: the 24-year-old winger, with a rating of 7.2, took advantage of an assist from Lucas Baragiola, the central midfielder who was rated 6.5 and did his bit in the holding role. However, the reaction came when there was no room left to manoeuvre.
The approach was evenly matched, but Caballito Oeste carried it out better. In Primera L de GBA Oeste, where every win counts in the fight for promotion or consolidation, these three points picked up away from home carry extra weight. Pompeya are left with the unfinished task of finding greater attacking efficiency: Forni chipped in, but he needs support. For Caballito Oeste, this victory in matchday 3 is a breath of fresh air in the campaign.
