Def. Agronomía Centro did not have to make much of an effort to see off Def. San Cristóbal Oeste on matchday two of Primera I GBA Sur. The home side claimed a 2-0 win which, beyond the scoreline, reflected clear differences between two teams who set out with the same plan but did not execute it in the same way. Both started with a balanced 4-4-2, the classic park football setup that, in Buenos Aires, works when there are people who know where to be at every moment.

Agronomía Centro’s goals came from Yair Spinelli and Gino Baciocchi. Spinelli, at twenty-six and with that scar that tells stories of childhood in Comodoro Rivadavia, was clinical when the chance came his way. Baciocchi, just a nineteen-year-old youngster who had almost landed at the club by accident, showed plenty of nerve in the box and did not hesitate. Vicente Zubeldía, the thirty-year-old holding midfielder who structures Agronomía’s play from the middle of the pitch, had a quiet afternoon: his presence was enough to neutralise Def. San Cristóbal Oeste’s midfield efforts, where Benicio Schmitt moved as best he could but looked uncomfortable with the tempo. Goalkeeper Luis Coelho was barely troubled; the home side gave the opposition very little. Lionel Zambon, the seventeen-year-old centre-back, came through without too much pressure in a defence that worked in an organised way.

For Def. San Cristóbal Oeste, the task was much harder. Federico Arazandi and his defensive company had to keep dropping back constantly against a press that, while not suffocating, was consistent. Pepe Bottani, the seventeen-year-old forward, failed to get into the match in a decisive way. The defeat leaves the visitors with the need to respond quickly in the coming matchdays if they want to seriously challenge for the top spots in the group.
