Cooperativa San Telmo showed no mercy in the second round of Primera I in GBA Sur. The home side swept aside El Porvenir de Montserrat with a 2-0 victory that underlined a clear, though not overwhelming, superiority. Two 4-4-2 line-ups with balanced mindsets were, on paper, setting up a tight contest, but the home side found gaps that the visitors could never fully plug. The goals from Jeremías Trevisan and Faustino Pirelli confirmed the control, although El Porvenir never threw in the towel nor looked completely outclassed on the pitch.
It was one of those matches where the details matter more than the spectacle. Trevisan, the 25-year-old central midfielder who arrived from Comodoro Rivadavia, made his presence felt both in attack and defence, and his ability to thread passes through was decisive in Cooperativa's play. Up front, Pirelli — at 33 still with the tools to make a difference — moved intelligently and did not simply wait in the box. Elián Coelho at left-back was solid in defence, while the youngsters Liam Baldini and Emiliano Maldonado came through without any scares. The visiting defence, with Ramón Varese at centre-back and Jonathan Vita at left-back, put in a decent shift but without any sparkle. Genaro Zielinski, on the right, took on the task of trying to shut down that side of the pitch.
The result leaves Cooperativa taking firm steps in the tournament, while El Porvenir will have to review how that defensive fragility came about. It was not a visiting disaster, but it was a warning: at this level, lapses in concentration are punished without delay. The hosts made the most of every chance. And that, in the football of the Buenos Aires interior, is what separates the teams that go on from those that fall by the wayside.
