Match report

Círculo Parque Avellaneda and Deportivo Mataderos Veteranos shared the points in a straightforward fixture, with both sides managing their resources without taking too many risks. The goalless draw at the Avellaneda pitch reflected two teams who, with identical 4-4-2 formations and balanced mentality, prioritised defensive organisation before trying to break down the opposition’s solidity. It was not a memorable match, but nor was it one of those where anyone leaves not wanting to come back.

Sandro De Angelis, 25 and in his prime as a goalkeeper, had little to do in the home goal; Genaro Anzorena, five years younger, showed security for the visitors but likewise had very few interventions that truly tested him. Franco Haddad, Círculo’s striker with a 7.2 rating, could not find the space to hurt them; in Mataderos’ attacking area, Ariel Morales — the 22-year-old Uruguayan who arrived on trial not long ago — also failed to create sustained danger. Leonel Zenatti, Círculo’s 18-year-old left-back, did his job in defence without overdoing it. Hernán Aresti, the midfielder from Tandil, went largely unnoticed, as did much of the visitors’ midfield.

The result leaves both sides with the feeling of a job done but not much to celebrate. For Círculo Parque Avellaneda, at home, it was a chance to pick up three points, though at least they did not lose. For Mataderos, taking a point away from home has its value, but with greater ambitions they should have pressed more in the second half. Matchday 2 of Primera I GBA Sur: both are still alive in the competition, but neither has shown convincing credentials.
