Federación Liniers1 - 0Liga Núñez

Federación Liniers won authoritatively at home against Liga Núñez, thanks to Gabriel Buonocore’s goal which earned them a deserved victory in a match where both approaches were evenly matched but execution decided the outcome. On matchday 8 of Primera I de GBA Oeste, the home side made the most of home advantage to take all three points in a tight game where neither side looked to venture forward too much. Both teams’ 4-4-2 formations produced a balanced contest, without any major scares, with possession moving from one side to the other without either team imposing total dominance. Buonocore’s goal, scored by the centre-back who also picked up a yellow card during the afternoon, was enough to break the visitors’ resistance.

Lionel Mansur, the hosts’ left winger, made his presence felt down the flanks with the nimble touch typical of someone who knows this circuit well. Axel Bonomi, the barely 19-year-old Paraguayan striker, was lively without managing to find the net in the visitors’ half, while Gabi Bettega performed his role as right midfielder with the seriousness that characterises his performances. In goal, Ariel Abud was barely called upon during an afternoon when Liga Núñez created little behind their defenders. For the visitors, Marcos Andueza remained focused in goal without too many complications, while Joaco Vidaurri and Rafael Bandiera, the latter also booked, sought to contain the hosts’ attacks with some effectiveness, although it was not enough.

What became clear is that Federación Liniers have a well-balanced squad in which players such as Mansur and the young Bonomi can make the difference at this level. Liga Núñez, however, leave with the feeling that they competed with honour, although their lack of attacking efficiency proved costly. One of those matches that second-tier football serves up: without drama or overwhelming excitement, just the result that counts.
