Tandilocuentes Unidos1 - 0Círculo Parque Avellaneda

Defensa San Cristóbal Oeste took all three points in Primera I South with a 1-0 win over Círculo Parque Avellaneda in a match where both teams showed each other respect from the outset. There were no tactical surprises: two balanced 4-4-2 systems that cancelled each other out for much of the game, with a kind of football marked by clear lines where the ball was rarely moved with any fluency. The goal came through Saúl Esposito's own merit, as he took advantage of a defensive error and finished the move well when space was at a premium. The Corrientes-born midfielder, 27, was the only player to find gaps in a compact opponent with little attacking ambition.

The home defence worked in an orderly fashion thanks to the combined effort of Federico Arazandi and Salvador Valenzano in the middle, where the centre-back from Merlo showed that characteristic composure that needs no fuss. Diego Ibarra, on the right flank, kept Javier Karam's advances under control without too much bother. On the left, Joel Ayub did his job without shining, though he did well to block Lucas Zapata's intentions, the Mendoza full-back who tried to spark the game into life without success. Círculo Parque Avellaneda shared possession but lacked clear ideas. Santi Pawlak, the left-footed creator, never managed to generate real danger, and the visitors ended up resigned to a defeat that surprises nobody in a league where the margins are tiny.

Defensa San Cristóbal Oeste picks up three important points on matchday 8 and remains alive in the battle in their group. Círculo Parque Avellaneda, meanwhile, continues to look for answers that have yet to arrive. A grey match that left what it had to leave: a rightful winner, although neither side produced football to remember.
