Match report
Deportivo Mataderos Veterans came out on top against Sociedad Villa Lugano in a match where balance was the dominant note. The final 2-1 reflects a tight contest, one of those fixtures where the three points are decided by details and efficiency, not by overwhelming superiority. Both sides set up the same way: 4-4-2 with balanced mentality, which produced a tactical match where nobody gave an inch and transitions played a central role. The home side made better use of their chances, but the visitors left Mataderos feeling they could have taken something more.
The home goals came from unexpected places. Nicolás Arcuri, the 18-year-old right-back brought up in Merlo, stepped up to score when least expected, showing that ability youngsters have to be in the right place at the right time. Ariel Morales, the Uruguayan striker who was almost by chance developed in Mataderos after a trial nobody expected to succeed, finished the job with his goal. In midfield, Hernán Aresti pulled the strings from the middle of the pitch with the experience of his 29 years, although he ended up booked for his competitive edge. At the other end, Eduardo Sevilla pulled one back for Villa Lugano with the rating that gives him confidence, but it was not enough. David Moya, the home side's Paraguayan striker, saw yellow when he tried to create danger from the front line.
The result leaves Mataderos in a comfortable position on matchday 8 of the Primera I GBA Sur. Villa Lugano, meanwhile, will have to rethink their approach because in matches like this, where space is at a premium, the margin for error is minimal. It was not a memorable match, but it was a home win against a side that put up a fight. Sometimes, that is enough.
