Match report

KM 1 Calamar and Atlético Mataderos shared the points on matchday 6 of the Primera E de CABA in a match that laid bare the difficulties both sides had in making their chances count. The home side set out with an attacking approach from the off in their 4-1-4-1 formation, looking to make the most of home advantage, while the visitors lined up in a more balanced 4-4-2 diamond that aimed to contain the home side's thrusts. The final 1-1 result faithfully reflects what happened on the pitch: two teams who had moments to win but ended up settling for the draw.

Mariano López, the young prospect of just sixteen in the ranks of KM 1 Calamar, was a standout figure for much of the match. The Mendoza-born attacker scored the goal that put the home team ahead, showing that knack of being in the right place at the right time that marks out youngsters with a future. His constant movement caused persistent problems for the visiting defence, led by Esteban Castro, the thirty-two-year-old centre-half who tried to contain the home attacks without always succeeding. In midfield, Marcos Branca, the thirty-three-year-old Brazilian holding midfielder, did his job by breaking up play in the middle of the pitch, although his yellow cards showed the intensity of a hard-fought match.

Atlético Mataderos' response came through Martín Messi, the Brazilian winger who understands the game in tight spaces because of his futsal background. The twenty-five-year-old forward managed to score and seal the draw, taking advantage of a move that Juan Bastianelli, the attacking midfielder who came up through the club's academy years ago, helped to create with a key assist. Bastianelli, the twenty-three-year-old youngster born in Junín, showed good judgement in the final third to find his team-mates. Miguel Greco, the twenty-one-year-old holding midfielder who plays for the Mataderos side, worked tirelessly in midfield to cut off the home side's attacking flow, although his attempts to win the ball back were constant.

KM 1 Calamar's goal was guarded by Beto Ramos, the twenty-eight-year-old goalkeeper who picked up a yellow card during the match. The Comodoro Rivadavia-born keeper did his bit to keep his team alive at times when the visitors' pressure was significant. A fair result on the balance of play, although both clubs will be left with the bitter taste of having been close to victory without being able to clinch it. In the Primera E, these hard-earned draws often leave nobody satisfied, but nor do they punish too heavily when the opposition play away from home with a certain defensive discipline, as was the case with Atlético Mataderos this afternoon.
