Match report

On a pitch without stories, beneath a CABA sky that gave no permission to be grey, Benja fc and Árbitros fc met on matchday 6 of the Primera E with just enough weapons to settle nothing. The goalless draw stood as the perfect summary of a match where both teams came by clear chances in dribs and drabs, where the defences worked better than the attacks, and where football looked more like a protocol than a battle. The home side were looking to assert themselves through attack with their 4-4-2, while the visitors, with their balanced 4-3-3, had not come to give anything away on foreign ground.

Pablo Marchetti, Benja fc's veteran goalkeeper at 36, spent the afternoon with no great alarms between the posts. His experience was more useful than his hands' work: on few occasions did he have to intervene decisively. At the other end, Franco Otamendi in Árbitros fc's goal picked up a yellow card that summed up the spirit of the match well, though he too went through without any major demands. Both keepers performed properly with their 7.2 ratings, but nothing on the day forced them to leave their lines in a hurry.

Benja fc's back four, with Cristian Caruso at right-back and his defensive team-mates, held a structure that was hard to breach. Caruso, the 27-year-old Brazilian who carries childhood scars on his chin, did his defensive job without shining but without making mistakes. In midfield, Miguel Messi operated from central midfield with the composure of someone who knows his trade, although a rating of 7.0 shows he was not the engine to jolt the match either. For the visitors, Martín Russo and Lautaro Suárez in the defensive midfield line maintained a compact shape that Benja fc could not break down. The hosts pressed, looked to create from the flanks, but always found bodies in the way and few cracks through which to slip it.

The football on show was that of teams that respect each other, that do not trust themselves but also do not throw themselves into attack in desperation. Benja fc, with an attacking mindset in the tactical description, tried on several occasions to create danger, but Árbitros fc did not lose concentration. The transitions were slow, short passes were plentiful, and that 0-0 recorded in the statistics is the exact reflection of what took place over ninety minutes on the green rectangle. Neither Marchetti nor Otamendi had to make spectacular saves. Nor were there devastating counter-attacks or lofted crosses that put the rivals in jeopardy.

The draw is fair for both because neither side did enough to deserve three points. Árbitros fc take their away point on a pitch that did not overwhelm them, and Benja fc miss the chance to strengthen their hopes at home. The Primera E carries on with these fixtures where efficiency is conspicuous by its absence and where the goalkeepers are, paradoxically, the least punished men in the match.
