Match report
Cooperativa Abasto dominated without needing to overelaborate too much against La Gloria de Liniers at the northern zone stadium, seeing off a match that was balanced in approach but uneven in execution. Both goals came without drama, without the home side needing to overtax the engine. With both sides in 4-4-2 and similar mindsets, the fixture promised little in the way of entertainment and that is exactly what it delivered: two well-drilled blocks studying each other, with no major attacking ambition in the opening exchanges.
What made the difference was Cooperativa Abasto's defensive solidity. Cristian Basaldua and Simón Bartoli, the home side's centre-backs, worked like a wall that was hard to breach. Basaldua in particular had a calm afternoon, reading the visitors' attacking movements and cutting out the few chances La Gloria de Liniers managed to put together. At right-back, Polaco Zanchi not only defended but also contributed in attack, scoring one of the goals. Maxi Scarpinato on the right wing was a constant headache for the visiting defence whenever he got on the ball, while Santino Altzaga in midfield acted as a ball-winner as well as netting a goal that sealed the win. The visitors, with Schwartzman, Villari and Izquierdo doing what they could, never found the continuity needed to trouble them.
La Gloria de Liniers were not poor, but they lacked clarity in building out from the back and could do little against a rival who knew exactly where to tread. With no injuries and not too many scares, Cooperativa Abasto take three comfortable points on matchday 15 of Primera L GBA Norte. For the losers, the challenge now is to find answers quickly, because in this division setbacks carry weight.
