El Vencedor of San Telmo claimed a win they had earned in away conditions, beating Defensores de Retiro Centro by the narrowest of margins in a match where both sides opted for balanced set-ups, but San Telmo’s men ended up being more efficient. Ronaldo Silvestre’s goal, the twenty-five-year-old central midfielder who arrived from Resistencia seven years ago determined to try his luck in the capital, was enough to break down a home side that could not make the most of its chances or breach the defensive order the away team set up on the first line of GBA Norte.
Defensores de Retiro Centro lined up in a 4-4-2 with solidity in midfield, where Salvador Aramendia, the twenty-four-year-old left-sided midfielder brought up in Resistencia, tried to generate some attacking rhythm. But Lito Valencia, the veteran thirty-three-year-old striker who arrived at Retiro Centro from Comodoro Rivadavia almost by chance years ago, could not find the spaces or the timing to trouble an away defence where Pedro Arrigorriaga did his job at right-back without too much trouble. El Vencedor held their line, Kiki Levin provided width on the left and Roberto Molina, the twenty-year-old defensive midfielder who still keeps the boots from his arrival at San Telmo, shut down the spaces the hosts were trying to open up. Pipa Tronci, the twenty-three-year-old goalkeeper born in Comodoro Rivadavia, was barely tested and completed a controlled match from his goal.
Defensores de Retiro Centro were left with the feeling of a match lost more through a lack of sharpness than inferiority. Hernán Grilli on the left flank did not manage to get forward as he usually does. The home side had their moments, but the visitors were more clinical when it mattered. El Vencedor picked up three precious away points and are shaping up to challenge near the top of the table.
