All clubs now start with a full academy

The academy is no longer a headache

We’re kicking off with news the longer-serving managers will love: nobody will ever again be stuck with an incomplete academy. From now on, every club that joins the game starts with at least 15 youngsters ready to use. If you were already playing and had a few gaps in the academy, don’t worry: the technical staff have already been through your side and filled in what was missing. That said, you’ll need to go into the academy and check it yourself to see it.

What’s interesting here is that this also applies to clubs without a manager, the ones run by the computer. They too now have a full academy and, like you, pay the monthly wages for those youngsters. It means the game is more balanced from the off: nobody starts at a disadvantage because their academy is broken.

The scout is still your best mate

That said, let’s be clear: having a full academy does not mean you’ll automatically get a winner. Those 15 youngsters are the floor, not the ceiling. If you want to build a really strong team for the future, the scout is still your tool. Going out to find better youngsters, bringing them to your club and developing them is what separates a manager who knows what they’re doing from one who doesn’t. The base academy is just the minimum so you don’t get left half-way there.

This is good news because plenty of new managers were starting from scratch, unable even to play a youth fixture because they didn’t have enough players. Now they’ll be able to get going from day one. And the old hands who had to wait for the academy to fill up little by little can breathe easy.

If you haven’t tried the game yet, this is a good time to get involved. A full academy means you can start competing properly from the beginning, without having to wait months for it to fill up with youngsters. Go into the academy, see what you’ve got, and then think about what kind of squad you want to build. Welcome to the game.
