What the Intercontinental Final is
The Intercontinental Final is a one-off match between the best club in the Americas and the best in Europe: the two continental champions of the previous season, at a neutral venue.
In real football the intercontinental final was born to settle which continent had the best club in the world: the champion of the Americas against the champion of Europe, over one match or two legs depending on the era. It is the tie with the most history between clubs from different continents.
In ELDT the Intercontinental Final pits the champion of the Champions Cup of the Americas against the champion of the European Champions Cup of the previous season. It is a single match at a neutral venue: no home side, nobody plays in his own ground and there are no gate receipts. It is played at the start of every even season, in the first week, before the continental cups take over the Wednesdays from matchday 3. The first edition is at the start of Season 4. In odd seasons, from Season 5, its place is taken by the ELDT Club World Cup, and that year there is no Intercontinental.
The champion collects $30 million and the runner-up $15 million. Winning it earns the Intercontinental Champion achievement, worth more fame than any league or cup title, and secures a place in the Club World Cup of the cycle. If it ends level, it goes to penalties.
