Match report
AD Recoleta secured a narrow home win against General Pueyrredón de Constitución, a 1-0 result that left more questions than answers in an increasingly competitive Primera I del GBA Oeste. Augusto Vázquez, a right-back aged just twenty-two, settled the match with his goal, sealing a victory the home side needed but failed to build with any real clarity. Both teams set up in similar 4-4-2 formations, guaranteeing a tight match in which football was largely absent for much of the game.
The match unfolded amid tactical probing and little room for entertainment. Marcelo Zelaya, a thirty-three-year-old Recoleta attacking midfielder and the home side's standout player with a rating of 7.6, tried to create from midfield without finding the combinations he had hoped for. For Recoleta, Levi Basaldua in central midfield performed his holding role without surprises, while Jonathan Mariño, a twenty-one-year-old forward in development, failed to connect with the chances that came his way. For the visitors, Oscar Bressan and Rocco Grasso held together a defence which, despite showing some vulnerable moments, was not beaten until Vázquez's goal. The yellow cards shown to Zelaya and Mariño for the home side, and to Marcelo Sgarbi for General Pueyrredón, illustrated the contained intensity of the encounter.
What became clear is that Recoleta cannot afford these low-tempo matches at home if they seriously intend to challenge in the division. Pueyrredón did not arrive beaten: they played their part, especially through their defensive line led by Sgarbi, but they also lacked the temperament to take anything from the match. The visitors are left with the bitter taste of losing without having been comprehensively inferior; the home side, meanwhile, must improve substantially if they want to maintain their winning run.
