Match report
Central de Belgrano R El Barrio secured a narrow win over Patriotas Almagro on the seventh matchday of Primera I — GBA Oeste, in a match where both teams set up evenly but the home side ultimately proved more clinical. The final 1-0 scoreline reflected a scrappy afternoon of football, with few attacking flashes, where the difference was made by the home team’s ability to make the most of its opportunities. Patriotas did not give up, but came away empty-handed after an approach that never managed to trouble the opposing goal enough.
With both sides lining up in a 4-4-2, the match unfolded with little space and plenty of sideways passing. Elías Lobos, the 27-year-old centre-back for the home side, was decisive in the Belgrano defence, not only in his defensive work but also by appearing in attack: he scored the goal that sealed the result. Rolando Stankovic, his partner at the heart of the defence, had to work hard against Elías Villegas’s attempts and Patriotas’ pressure. In midfield, Hernán Turetta, Central’s 17-year-old youngster, showed his ability to read the game, although he lacked decisiveness at times. Cacho Marín and Javier Wolf, the 29- and 31-year-old home forwards respectively, had few clear chances but fulfilled their holding role. For the visitors, Christian Bandini at left-back and Toño Baroli on the wing tried to create danger, but came up against a well-organised defence. The yellow cards were handed out without any major incidents: Stankovic, Marín and Turetta for Central; the visitors recorded no bookings according to the data.
The result gives Central de Belgrano R El Barrio three valuable points in the battle in the group, while Patriotas Almagro suffer another defeat that complicates their campaign. It was the typical match where winning without shining has its merit, although it also leaves the feeling that both teams failed to fulfil their potential.
