RAYAN C.F.0 - 3Prov. Pompeya

Patriotas Constitución had a rough afternoon on its debut in Primera H of GBA Oeste. The defeat was comprehensive: three unanswered goals against Prov. Pompeya, a visiting side that arrived at the Constitution pitch ready to punish any defensive weakness. With matching 4-4-2 shapes and balanced set-ups on paper, what unfolded was a display of tactical superiority from the away side that Patriotas never managed to counter. The home side did look to take the game to the opposition, true enough, but they lacked consistency in their build-up and the defensive unit was porous from the outset. Pompeya took every chance it found and kept stretching the scoreline with a level of efficiency that stood in contrast to their rivals' wayward finishing.

The visiting side found space down the flank time and again and knew how to move the ball around without any alarms. As the minutes ticked by, the difference in execution became clear. Patriotas had intent but lacked attacking clarity; the long passes failed to connect with the front line and their advances were sporadic. Pompeya, meanwhile, built attacks smoothly. When they reached the opposition box, they did so with danger. The three goals went in without Patriotas being able to offer any serious resistance at the key moments. The home defence was exposed again and again.

For Patriotas, this opening defeat raises unsettling questions about how they will hold up over the season. They need to rethink the defensive set-up and find attacking solutions that were nowhere to be seen. Pompeya, by contrast, confirms that it has a squad with tactical nous and a desire to compete. A comprehensive win worth its weight in gold on matchday one, even if this is only the beginning of a long road in the league.
