Match report

Villa Lugano and Villa Urquiza played out a goalless draw without much incident on matchday ten of the Primera L of GBA Sur, a result that satisfies few but faithfully reflects what happened on the pitch. Both teams came out with the intention of not losing, set up in balanced 4-4-2 shapes, and that was precisely the problem: a match without excessive risks where the goals arrived almost as mutual gifts that neither side knew how to make the most of to take the advantage.

Quique Schwartzman, the Colombian central midfielder, 37, who is still going strong at El Fortín, scored the first with a rating of 7.2 that sums up his display well: steady, without sparkle but effective. At the other end, Nicolás Branca, five years younger but with the same rating, levelled for Villa Urquiza on an afternoon where both midfielders were the main driving forces. Ian Casal at right-back for El Fortín and Maxi Aizaga on the visitor's left flank carried out their defensive duties without major difficulty. In attack, Wilfredo Turrini for El Fortín and Hernán Fischer for Villa Urquiza alternated moments of clarity with finishing errors; the Brazilian at least provided an assist that was good for Branca's goal. Antonio Bianco, the 32-year-old Argentine centre-back, kept things solid at the back for El Fortín while Tadeo Calabretta, a 37-year-old from Extremadura who still plays for Villa Urquiza, failed to find the space to break through.

The draw leaves both in an awkward spot: neither moving forward nor slipping back. For El Fortín, at home and expected to win, it is a point that tastes like too little. For Villa Urquiza, taking a point away from home has more value, but the overall feeling is that neither side made the most of the chances the other handed them on the field.
