Match report

Villa Crespo Este found the way to break down the deadlock brought by C. y Barrio Retiro on Saturday afternoon, in a match where both sides set out with the intention of controlling the game from midfield. It was a tight encounter, one of those where the difference is usually made by small details, and the home side made the most of one of their chances to take all three points on matchday 19 of the Primera L de GBA Oeste. Villa Crespo Este's balanced 4-4-2 managed to contain the visitors and create enough space to settle the match without too many scares.

Maxi Sotomayor was the one to celebrate for the home side, scoring the only goal of the afternoon. At just seventeen, the striker from Tandil showed why he deserves the trust his manager places in him, finishing with assurance when the chance came his way. His movement in the area and ability to be in the right place at the right time were what made the difference in a match where both defences were alert. Sotomayor's attacking teammates, with Eduardo Ponce as the main offensive partner, kept up constant pressure on Retiro's back line.

In midfield, Villa Crespo Este enjoyed relative control thanks to the work of Ramiro Visini, who at twenty-five remains a reference point in that area. The Uruguayan midfielder distributed the ball intelligently and did not hesitate to halt the visitors' attacking intentions when necessary, although he picked up a yellow card for his intensity. Nilo Funes, on the right, was responsible for much of the home side's attacking movement, with the typical runs of a young midfielder still polishing his reading of the game.

On C. y Barrio Retiro's side, Jeremías Bruschi tried to nullify the home side's advances down the right flank, although his performance was not among the standouts in the afternoon. The visiting full-back also saw yellow for a foul when the tempo rose during the second half. In attack, Retiro's men failed to trouble the home defence too much, despite having experience in their ranks through veterans such as Kiki Wieczorek, aged thirty-two. The Bahía Blanca striker tried to make an impact in the area, but found little space and few chances to capitalise.

Lucio Guzmán, at right-back for the home side, was solid in his defensive duties and made good use of the few spaces he had to get forward. Villa Crespo Este's defence kept its shape and did not allow the visitors to create sustained danger. It was a match with few real thrills after Sotomayor scored, a fair result in which the home side deserved the win for their greater attacking clarity and for not making serious defensive mistakes that might have put the victory at risk.
