Atlético Villa Chiche1 - 2AD Palermo Hollywood

Palermo Hollywood came away with a deserved win at the Ciudadela, in a match where both teams set up in the same way but the visitors were more clinical. Barracas lost 2-1 on matchday 5 of Primera I de CABA, with goals from Rodrigo Arechavaleta and Manu Gareca for the Palermo side, while Claudio Caggiano pulled one back for the hosts. Barracas’ right-back, aged just 23, scored with the appropriate rating for a youngster battling in the division, but it was not enough to stop a visiting side that knew how to manage its energy.

Neither side’s balanced 4-4-2 produced any tactical surprises. What made the difference was Palermo Hollywood’s attacking maturity: Arechavaleta, a 31-year-old veteran with plenty of experience, made the most of the space on the right wing, while Gareca, the 22-year-old Chilean attacking midfielder with a modest rating but decisive in this match, was the difference-maker in the closing stages. In defence, Gianluca Ferreira and Lorenzo Gándara held together a solid centre-back pairing, with the experienced Ferreira controlling the spaces inside. Alfredo Trotta in midfield fulfilled his holding role without dazzling, but did so efficiently. Gareca picked up a yellow card for his impatience, although that did not stop his attacking efforts.

Barracas are left frustrated at having competed without finding a solution. Caggiano scored the late response, but it was not enough. The home side never managed to turn their balance into clear-cut chances, while Palermo knew how to make the most of their attacks with organised passing. In the table, the visitors add three more points to their tally. Barracas will have to improve their attacking efficiency if they want to seriously challenge in this Primera I de CABA, which is only just beginning to establish its favourites.
