Match report

In the heart of the Mataderos neighbourhood, the home side faced Real Abasto Reservas in a fixture where both squads opted for tactical caution. The result, a 1-1 draw, reflected the balance of two 4-4-2 line-ups that never fully committed but never dared all that much either. David Moya, the 22-year-old Paraguayan striker, scored for the home side. At the other end, Andrés Karam, a 27-year-old midfielder who arrived at Real Abasto from Patagonia almost without looking for it, levelled matters with his goal and showed why he remains a reference point in the visiting side. The match unfolded at the expected pace of a matchday 14 in GBA Sur: without shocks, without drama, without the kind of epics that are soon forgotten.

The defence was the silent protagonist of the afternoon. Lucho Bruno, a centre-back from Comodoro Rivadavia who had only just turned 21, picked up a yellow card for his defensive intensity but held firm against the onslaught. Alongside him, Noé Castiglione, the 25-year-old Colombian developed in motorcycle garages, maintained the solidity. For the visitors, Yoel Ledesma and Wilfredo Weinberg, both Argentine, shut down the spaces with discipline. Xavier Farías, the 16-year-old youngster who arrived at Real Abasto almost by chance from Tandil, tried to create danger down the right but found a watchful defence.

What remains of this 1-1 is the feeling of a missed opportunity. Mataderos could have settled it at home with a more attacking approach. Real Abasto, by contrast, settled for a point which, in the context of the matchday, does not really satisfy but does not exactly hurt either. Esteban Peñaloza, the Merlo striker with a 6.5 rating, did not have the attacking weight expected. In the GBA Sur leagues, these draws between evenly matched squads end up being just that: neither victory nor defeat, simply another matchday along the road.
