Match report

Villa Riachuelo needed nothing extraordinary to beat Villa Lugano on matchday 6 of Primera L-GBA Norte. A 2-0 scoreline that reflected the gap between two teams who set up in similar shapes but got dissimilar results. The home side controlled the game without overwhelming, efficient where they needed to be, while the visitors never found the attacking compass to trouble Yanis Zola between the posts.

The goals came from the area Villa Riachuelo know best: midfield. Vidal Bottura, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder who had a moment of real clarity, opened the scoring with the precision of someone who knows where the goal is. Bautista Zarate, the experienced 33-year-old midfielder who carries Merlo’s historic burden in his surname, sealed the result with authority. Both scored because Villa Lugano left space they should never have surrendered. Full-back Santino Fernández, at 33, could not contain the runs down his flank, while Víctor Bettega, the visitors’ 31-year-old playmaker, was little more than a spectator in the flow of the game. Joaquín Zola, the 16-year-old Brazilian full-back who defended for Villa Riachuelo, picked up a yellow card but coped without being rattled by the responsibility.

Toto Ferrari, the 17-year-old central defender from Mendoza who inherited his brother’s boots, tried to keep the visitors’ defence in order but had no support. Villa Lugano left the Riachuelo empty-handed and with awkward questions: Bettega and Víctor created nothing, the team was predictable. Villa Riachuelo, by contrast, confirmed that with Bottura and Zarate in rhythm, the side breathes differently. A win that surprises nobody in the area, but leaves the message clear: there are teams who already know how to win.
