Athletic Bilbo
1 - 0
Bastión Kawaii
Match report
Athletic de Bilbo earned a deserved victory over Boca Cerrada on the second matchday of the Capital Primera G, with a 1-0 scoreline that reflected the home side’s dominance without it ever becoming overwhelming. Both teams lined up in identical 4-4-2 formations with a balanced mentality, producing a tight match in which the defences prevailed over the attacking ambitions. Left-back Noé Izquierdo, with his thirty-one years of experience, was one of the home side’s defensive pillars. Izquierdo demonstrated the know-how he has accumulated over his years in football, precisely blocking the visitors’ attempts to advance down his flank.
Boca Cerrada arrived at the pitch with intent, but lacked cutting edge in attack. Wilfredo Wagner, the eighteen-year-old goalkeeper guarding the visitors’ goal, had to deal with a few isolated situations without being overworked. Right-back Lauti Ríos fulfilled his role by containing the home side down the right flank, while Cataldo Puentes maintained Athletic’s tactical structure in central midfield. The goal that decided the match did not come from a moment of inspiration, but in the context of a game in which the home side were more effective when their chances arrived.
Kiki Lobos, Athletic’s eighteen-year-old forward, embodied the hunger of a youngster still seeking to establish himself in the Primera, while midfielder Chino Valencia added experience on the pitch. Boca Cerrada had Yair Tassani as a midfielder looking to maintain order in the middle, but the defences dominated the overall proceedings. Athletic took three points on a matchday when the difference was minimal, but enough to decide a duel in which both sides performed as expected.
