Match report

Ferro Pilar took a deserved result in Munro, in a fixture where both teams played with the caution of sides determined not to make mistakes on the opening matchday. The 1-0 earned by the visitors reflected what happened on the pitch: two well-matched 4-4-2 line-ups that cancelled each other out, except for the moment that mattered. Joaco Roca, the right winger who arrived from Comodoro Rivadavia with nothing more than the clothes he stood up in and a travel bag, was the one who finally broke the deadlock. At 24, the Ferro forward showed the precision that marks him out on the right flank, converting a clear chance when the home defence switched off.

Manuel Maldonado kept goal safely for Mutual Trabajadores, the Uruguayan goalkeeper who grew up in Salto years ago and who this Sunday had a limited but important amount of work. For the visitors, Maximiliano Berman was a rock at the heart of defence for the full ninety minutes. The 36-year-old Brazilian centre-back, with a rating of 7.7, continues to show that experience and discipline do not have an expiry date. His full-back teammates, Enzo Talamonti on the right and Rafael Bargone on the left, carried out their holding roles without incident. Both were booked, but kept the defensive line solid.

In midfield, Zaid Retegui tried to be a disruptor for Mutual from the advanced midfield area, though without too much effect. The 30-year-old Argentine midfielder also saw yellow. Ariel Besozzi, Mutual’s young centre-back, just 18, showed sound reading of the defensive game despite his inexperience. Ferro Pilar, led by Brazilian Horacio Bertoldi on the left flank, pressed when needed but did not require much more. The 1-0 was enough for the visitors to leave satisfied after the opening matchday.
