Match report

Reservas Floresta found what it was after on matchday 2 of Primera L GBA Oeste: a victory that felt earned on the pitch, with no gifts. Against Def. Caballito Oeste, in a match where both sides set out with the same idea — balanced 4-4-2s — the home side took the three points with a 2-1 that reflected a small but decisive difference. The goals from Benjamín Arrillaga and Federico Aramberri kept Floresta afloat at home, while Bauti Rivero pulled one back for the visitors with a strike that came too late to change the result.

Arrillaga, at 27, continues to show he knows exactly where he stands on a pitch. The Comodoro-born striker is not one for dazzling flashes, but he knows when to put his foot in at the right place. Aramberri, from Mendoza and with a similar career path, finished things off clinically. For the visitors, Rivero — the 31-year-old Brazilian whose career has been marked by little fanfare — at least made sure he was still in the match. Gándara, the central midfielder from Caballito, turned in a good display with an assist but it was not enough to keep his side afloat on rival turf. At the back, Enrique Puebla for Floresta and Caballito Oeste's right-back behaved with the responsibility the division demands.

The balanced mentality both managers put forward guaranteed a match without major shocks, but without a lack of intensity either. Pocho Arbide, the 37-year-old Floresta left winger who still contests every ball as though it were the first of his career, was part of the mechanism that allowed the home side to keep control. For Def. Caballito Oeste, there is the frustration of having failed to pick up points away from home, in a match where they were there, but where Floresta knew how to manage its chances better. A fair victory, without fuss, that gives the pitch leader some breathing space.
