Central de Saavedra El Barrio2 - 1Argentinos de Recoleta

Central de Saavedra El Barrio took a deserved win on matchday 11 of Primera I de CABA, beating Argentinos de Recoleta 2-1 in a match where both sides used similar set-ups but the home team made better use of its chances. It was a tight contest, one of those where the difference is made by the details and by defenders’ ability to turn into spearheads when the moment comes. Central’s balanced 4-4-2 worked at the back, where Rastelli and Olivera in midfield put a stop to Argentinos’ attempts, while up front the home side found enough gaps to punish.

Lolo Riccardi, the 31-year-old right-back with all the know-how of the trade, kept things in order down his side for the full ninety minutes. Santino Ruiz closed the door on the left with a solid display that earned him a yellow card, proof of his intensity. In midfield, Geremías Olivera, at 23 years of age, provided the balance Central needed. Néstor Massa pulled one back for Argentinos de Recoleta with a goal that kept the match alive, and Agustín Riquelme from defence did his bit to stop his side from going under completely. The numbers tell the story: ratings of 7.2 and 7.5 respectively for the visitors, but it was not enough against a home defence that tightened when it mattered.

The result leaves Central de Saavedra in the qualification spots with a win that, beyond the tactical parity, showed greater pragmatism. Argentinos de Recoleta are left frustrated after a match where they could have matched their opponents on merit but walked away empty-handed. In Primera I de CABA, these tight fixtures are the ones that decide seasons. Central understood that better yesterday.
