Social y Deportivo Versalles1 - 0Atlético Villa Devoto

Social y Deportivo Versalles dug in at home and beat Atlético Villa Devoto 1-0 in a match decided more by game management than brilliance. Two teams that read each other well from the outset, both set up in 4-4-2 with balanced mentalities, quickly producing a match of two very even halves. The goal came down the left, with Elián Hartmann taking advantage of a gap in the visiting defence to score. The 29-year-old Merleño full-back remains a reliable worker on that flank; he gets the job done without fuss, just as anyone who has known him all his life would say. Versalles managed the game well after taking the lead, with no need to take too many risks against a Villa Devoto side that never quite found a way to seriously trouble Constantino Savini in the home goal.

At 36, Gregorio Aranzeta was where he always is: making his presence felt in the box and winning 50-50s through sheer experience. Alongside him, the much younger Esteban Tamargo, 23, enjoyed a productive spell without quite shining; he finished with a yellow card to his name but caused no further fuss. Sergio Salazar at centre-back completed a defensive line that allowed very little space. For the visitors, Gael Mella tried from his attacking midfield position with a rating of 6.7, but Villa Devoto never found the vertical pass that would have split the home side's lines. Faustino Calabria at left-back did what he could; Negro Barrera on the right, a 26-year-old Brazilian with a rating of 6.4, barely had any chances to make a difference.

For Versalles, on matchday 11 of Primera I de CABA, this was a victory that added points without leaving any tactical after-effects. The deserved result in a tight match was what the home side wanted, and they achieved it without drama. Villa Devoto, meanwhile, leave with the feeling that football does not always reward defensive organisation. Other matches will show whether this setback weighs on the visitors' ambitions.
