Match report
Sportivo Flores Norte closed out matchday 8 with a win that cost them dearly, though it was worth every drop of sweat: 3-2 against Defensa y Retiro Oeste in a match where the goals flew as if the ball were cursed. The home side knew how to manage the tempo when needed, but the visiting side battled to the end with a ferocity that deserved more. Both similar approaches, two balanced 4-4-2 line-ups, ended up becoming a festival of defensive mistakes that favoured whoever could make the most of their chances in the final metres. Flores Norte took the three points because they had better reactions, not because they were better in terms of quality.
Edu Villagra was the standout figure in the home midfield: at 36, the man from Mendoza scored a goal and laid on an assist with the calm of someone who has seen it all in football. Valentín Silva and Axel Aldunate completed the firepower with a goal each, though neither enjoyed a night of sustained brilliance. For the visitors, Ian Arechavaleta was unstoppable: two goals from the Comodoro Rivadavia striker confirmed his 8.4 rating without fuss. Pocho Wolf, the Colombian youngster aged just 17, made good offensive runs and contributed an assist, though his inexperience cost him a yellow card. Iván Camargo in the home defence was also booked.
The price was high for Retiro Oeste, who leave Flores Norte knowing they could have drawn or won with greater accuracy in the final metres. Sportivo Flores Norte breathes, picks up three points and stays alive in Primera I del GBA Norte, though this kind of victory, where the opponent hurts more than it relieves, always leaves the feeling that something is missing. We’ll have to keep watching.
