AA Villa Devoto Reserva1 - 0
Defensores de Chivilcoy
Match report
AA Villa Devoto Reserve took all three points on matchday one of the GBA Oeste group against Defensores de Chivilcoy in a match where both teams played with similar set-ups, but the home side proved more effective in the moments that mattered. Lucca Marín’s goal, the thirty-one-year-old forward who arrived at the club almost by chance, made the difference in a tight contest where no space was handed out for free. Villa Devoto controlled the tempo with a balanced approach in their 4-4-2, while the visitors tried to respond but found few chances to spring a surprise.
Alfredo Borrelli in the home goal had little to do but remained alert, picking up a yellow card as per protocol. His counterpart Osvaldo Bagnoli, the young twenty-one-year-old Uruguayan goalkeeper who has come from Paysandú, could not prevent the home side’s strike despite being well positioned. At the back, Julián Raffaeli at left-back did a good job of containing Chivilcoy’s advances. Midfielder Faustino Bárcena, who also saw yellow, was key in the side’s defensive transition alongside Gael Goldenberg, who helped in the move that led to the assist Marín converted.
Defensores de Chivilcoy found no way through the cordon and their attempts owed more to physicality than creativity. Octavio Aretini, sitting in midfield to break things up, went toe to toe with the home midfielders without being able to tip the balance, while Salvador Bertone, the Brazilian forward, did not get the balls to trouble them consistently. Villa Devoto’s victory was a fair one because they knew how to manage the match, maintain their shape and take their chance when it came. A positive start for ELDT’s men in a group where everyone comes out to compete from the very first round.
