Primera División: matchday 17 round-up

Defensores de La Reja pulled off the result of the matchday, thrashing Sportivo La Lucila 4-2 away in a game that had everything. La Reja moved on to 32 points and climbed into second in the table, just behind Atlético Boedo, who remain top on 33. Meanwhile, Boedo confirmed their status as favourites by beating Club Ituzaingó 2-1, in a round of fixtures that made it clear the title race is being shaped by teams in fine form.

Draws were the story of the matchday across several areas of the pitch. Sportivo Pergamino and Defensores de Tigre Norte shared the points in a goalless draw, as did Defensores de Liniers and Sportivo Castelar. Atlético Chacarita Sur also failed to break the deadlock against Atlético Pacheco, producing another 0-0 that did little for either side’s hopes of joining the teams at the top.

Sportivo Nordelta picked up an important 2-1 win over Defensores de Tristán Suárez to stay among the leading pack on 27 points. Club Barracas, meanwhile, suffered a home defeat against Atlético Rincón, who won 1-0, although Barracas remain third on 32 points. Defensores del Norte also claimed three points, beating Sportivo Constitución 1-0 in a closely fought match.

The next matchday promises to be a lively one, with the teams at the top needing to keep winning if they are to maintain their chance of challenging for the title from the front.
