Primera División: matchday 9 results and table (Season 2)

Defensores del Norte remain clear at the top after a 3-1 thrashing of Sportivo Pergamino that left no room for doubt: the north-side club are playing in a league of their own. With 20 points from 9 matchdays, the local side are three lengths clear of Sportivo Castelar, who did their bit by beating Club Punta Alta 2-1 and remain unbeaten. Behind them, Atlético Boedo and Atlético Pacheco sit third and fourth on 18 points apiece, although Boedo claimed a convincing win over Defensores de Tigre Norte to stay in the hunt, while Pacheco could only draw 1-1 with Club Barracas. Club Ituzaingó dropped to fifth after losing 2-1 at home to Sportivo Nordelta, who have now joined the chasing pack.

Down at the wrong end, Sportivo Bahía Blanca hit rock bottom: they were thrashed 3-1 by Club Mataderos and remain stuck on just 4 points, deep in the relegation places. Defensores de Tigre Norte cannot buy a win and failed to add to their tally either, losing 1-0 to Atlético Boedo and staying on 6 points, with their fate almost sealed. Sportivo Pergamino are close behind on 7 points after Defensores del Norte’s heavy win. Further up the table, the fixtures produced plenty of drama: Defensores de La Reja drew 2-2 with Atlético Parque Patricios in an entertaining game, while the surprise result came from Defensores de Liniers, who beat Atlético Chacarita Sur 4-3 in an eight-goal thriller where just about everything happened.

Matchday 10 will be crucial in deciding whether Defensores del Norte can maintain their champions’ pace or one of their challengers can finally put them under pressure.
