Primera División: Matchday 18 round-up

Atlético Boedo continue to set the pace at the top of the Primera División, ELDT’s top tier, and confirmed it in style on Matchday 18 with a 3-2 win over Defensores de Tristán Suárez in a match that had everything. The Boedo side are handling the pressure at the summit with 36 points in the bag and remain the team to beat in the division, although Defensores de Tristán Suárez deserve credit for never giving up and making life difficult right to the end.

Elsewhere, several draws left the race near the top even more tightly packed. Defensores del Norte and Atlético Rincón shared the points in an even 2-2 draw, while Sportivo Castelar also failed to win at home against Atlético Pacheco. Club Barracas drew 2-2 with Defensores de Tigre Norte in another closely fought match, but remain third and still have a chance of staying in the title race.

The surprises came from Sportivo Nordelta, who did win: their 2-1 victory over Sportivo Pergamino was a useful result and keeps them in the leading group. Club Ituzaingó also made the most of the day, beating Sportivo La Lucila 3-2 in an eventful match, while Sportivo Constitución got the job done with a 1-0 win over Defensores de Liniers in a scrappy encounter.

The next matchday has plenty in store: everyone is back in action, and we’ll see whether Atlético Boedo can stay firmly at the top or whether one of the chasing sides can join the title fight.
