Primera División: matchday 19 round-up

Atlético Pacheco delivered a painful thrashing in La Reja, putting five past Defensores to claim a win that puts them firmly in the promotion picture. The result moved Pacheco into the qualifying places and sent out a warning to everyone else: they need to be taken seriously from here on in. It was the weekend’s standout hammering, and one that will be talked about in dressing rooms for some time to come.

Atlético Boedo remain firmly at the top of the table with 39 points after beating Sportivo Pergamino 2-0. The leaders continue to set the pace without putting a foot wrong, underlining their status as the team to beat in the Primera División, the top tier. Club Barracas, meanwhile, took a point from a 1-1 draw with Sportivo Nordelta and hold on to second place with 34 points, although they missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders.

Sportivo La Lucila also enjoyed a good afternoon, beating Defensores de Tristán Suárez 2-0, while Atlético Boedo once again showed their strength. In another tight contest, Sportivo Castelar and Sportivo Constitución shared the points in a 1-1 draw that offered little in the way of excitement. Defensores de Tigre Norte secured a narrow away win against Defensores del Norte, while Atlético Chacarita Sur lost 1-2 at home to Club Ituzaingó, a result that gives the Ituzaingó side valuable points.

With these results, the battle for qualification remains wide open in the middle and lower reaches of the table, while Atlético Boedo are shaping up as the clear favourites if they maintain this pace. Next matchday will show whether the leaders can keep winning or whether anyone is brave enough to stop this runaway machine.
