Primera División: Matchday 8 results and table (Season 2)

Matchday 8 served up a lively Sunday in the second division. Club Ituzaingó remain top with 17 points after thrashing Sportivo Pergamino, who had no answer to the Santa Fe side’s dominance. But Defensores del Norte and Atlético Pacheco also made their mark: Defensores beat Sportivo Bahía Blanca 2-1 in one of those matches decided by fine margins, while Pacheco drew 0-0 at home against Defensores de Tigre Norte. So, at the top, we still have three leaders breathing down each other’s necks, all on 17 points.

There was plenty of movement in mid-table. Sportivo Castelar rescued a point in the derby against Club Mataderos, finishing 1-1 and extending their unbeaten run. Atlético Boedo took the chance to join the big boys by beating Club Punta Alta 1-0, a result that leaves them third with a genuine chance. Atlético Chacarita Sur also picked up a point against Atlético Parque Patricios in another uneventful draw, while Club Barracas served up a goal-filled thriller against Defensores de Liniers, winning 3-2. And in the hottest fixture of the round, Sportivo Nordelta beat Defensores de La Reja 3-2.

The battle at the bottom is showing no mercy. Atlético Parque Patricios and Defensores de Tigre Norte remain perilously close to the drop with just 6 points each, while Sportivo Bahía Blanca are practically left on their own with 4 points after losing to Defensores del Norte. Anyone hoping to stay up will need to start collecting points urgently, because Matchday 9 is coming with no mercy.
