Primera Nacional Zone A: Matchday 16 Review

Defensores de Palermo ran riot on matchday 16, beating Club Saavedra 4-1 in style. The Palermo side are now firmly in the promotion race with 28 points, although they still need a couple more wins to catch the leaders. It was the clearest win of the round and leaves the team in good shape for what lies ahead.

Things remain tight at the top. Defensores de Flores and Atlético Parque Patricios share first place on 31 points each, although their matchday fortunes were very different. Parque Patricios made the most of playing away, beating Sportivo Villa Ortúzar 2-0 in convincing fashion, while Defensores de Flores did not play this matchday and retain the points tally they have built up so far.

There were a couple of minor surprises during the round. Club Almagro Sur claimed a 1-0 win over Defensores de Flores in a closely fought match, while Atlético Belgrano FC also picked up three points away from home against Sportivo Once. The draws also took centre stage: Club Villa Soldati and Sportivo Nuñez shared the points in a 1-1 draw, as did Atlético Pompeya and Defensores de Villa Urquiza after playing out a goalless draw.

Next matchday will reveal more about this battle at the top, with the leaders looking to preserve their advantage and the sides closing in hoping to force their way firmly into the title race.
