Primera Nacional Zone A: Matchday 17 review

Club Mataderos stole the show on Matchday 17 with a staggering 6-0 win over Atlético Belgrano FC in a match that was over as a contest almost immediately. Up at the top of the table, though, very little changed: Defensores de Flores and Atlético Parque Patricios remain joint leaders on 34 points, albeit by very different routes. Flores stayed where they were, while Parque Patricios climbed after beating struggling Atlético Villa Pueyrredón 3-0.

Defensores de Palermo remain in the hunt and strengthened their grip on third place with a straightforward 2-0 win over Defensores de Villa Urquiza. Atlético Recoleta also enjoyed a superb afternoon, thrashing Sportivo Nuñez 4-0, while Defensores de Flores beat Sportivo Once 2-0 to keep their hopes of topping the table alive. Club Villa Soldati also put in an impressive display, beating Club Almagro Sur 3-0 in a match that produced no surprises.

The matchday's draws came at Sportivo Villa Ortúzar and Club Saavedra, who could not break a goalless stalemate, and at Atlético Pompeya and Sportivo Villa Lugano, who shared the same scoreline. As a result, the battle at the top is red-hot, and any of the leading sides could move into first place.

Matchday 18 is next, bringing another round of a tournament that looks set to keep delivering drama in Zone A.
