Primera Nacional Zone A: Matchday 18 round-up

Matchday 18 was a disaster for Club Saavedra. The Saavedra side were thrashed 7-0 by Atlético Parque Patricios, who continue to lead Zone A with 37 points. There is not much to analyse here: it was total domination from the leaders, who showed exactly why they are top and why nobody is getting close.

The rest of the matchday had its share of drama. Sportivo Villa Ortúzar let a 3-2 defeat to Defensores de Villa Urquiza slip away in a match that could have ended differently, while Club Mataderos put two past a struggling Defensores de Flores to take all three points and join the promotion race. Defensores de Palermo lost 2-1 to Sportivo Villa Lugano, another result that shakes up the table.

There was less noise in mid-table. Club Villa Soldati swept aside Sportivo Once 4-0, Atlético Pompeya beat Atlético Belgrano 2-0, and Atlético Recoleta edged past Club Almagro Sur 1-0. Atlético Villa Pueyrredón and Sportivo Nuñez played out a goalless draw in a match that offered little excitement.

So Atlético Parque Patricios remain top, Defensores de Flores stay second with 34 points, and the battle for the leading places remains complicated, with several teams hovering around 29 points. The next matchday promises more movement in Zone A, where there is still plenty to decide about who will challenge at the top.
